SIGNS OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
High blood pressure is called hypertension, too. Most people do not know they have high blood pressure and it can kill you. There are no symptoms until it is too late and you end up with a heart attack or a stroke.

WHAT TO DO
There are some things you can do:

  • Get your blood pressure checked by seeing your family doctor for your once a year well visit check-up.
  • Exercise for 30 minutes at least Three times a week.
  • Watch what you eat. Eat more chicken and fish, whole grain breach and cereals, and fruits and vegetables. Eat less red meat, whole milk, cheese and butter.
  • Do not smoke. If you do, find a way to stop.
  • Find ways to get rid of stress.

WHEN IS IT TIME TO CALL THE DOCTOR?

  • Don't wail to start having chest pain and have a heart attack to find out what your blood pressure is. If you haven't seen you family doctor, call and make an appointment today.
  • If you find out that you have high blood pressure someplace besides your doctor's office, call your doctor right away. You may need medicine to help you keep your blood pressure under control. Your doctor will give you the medicines you need.
  • Your family doctor can also help you learn to eat better, start exercising, stop smoking and find ways to handle stress better.
